Todd Bardal

Hello! Thanks for visiting the website.

I’ve been in the construction trades my entire career. In college, I received a bachelors of science degree in Forest Products Marketing from the University of Minnesota. Go Gophers!

My journey began after my sophomore year. I took a summer job as a painter, which continued through graduation. Upon completing my degree, I took a job in Uptown at N.C. Bennett Lumber selling building materials to remodeling contractors. This gave a great first hand knowledge of the products that go into building a home, and the companies delivering them. I also purchased my first home, tore it all down to the studs and built it back up on evenings and weekends.

The next step was a position as a project manager for a former customer. This provided insight into the processes, coordination, and management of projects. I learned and appreciate much from this experience, and am happy to have contributed to some beautiful homes.

Next, I used the skills I had learned painting through college, and my project management experience developing a painting division inside an existing remodeling company in Bloomington. This required managing employees,

And then life hit! My wife and I had our second child, and a lot of decisions had to be made. After much consideration, I took a second shift job at Roto-Rooter as a drain tech. This allowed me to stay home during the days with the kids, which was such a blessing! It worked for a few years, but in the end, the mixed schedule and “tag teaming” the parental duties became burdonsome. I had also started picking up some painting jobs, and was getting so busy with those that starting my own painting company was the best option.

For 15 years, I ran Bardal Painting. Painting and finishing hundreds of projects, exploring multiple techniques, finding some fun and beautiful products, and working with a lot of great customers. I was able to meet a lot of other talented tradesmen while in the field, that I’m happy to partner with today.

As I’ve gotten older, and my kids have grown, allowing more time, I decided I would like a further challenge, and started Working Construct. I look forward to more opportunities to put to use the skills I’ve built through my career!

What’s in a name?

Who We Are: Defined

Working: Adjective

A theory used as the basis for work and likely to be developed, adapted, or improved later.

In remodeling, you can almost always expect that plans change from initial meeting to final product. This is one of the most fun, and sometimes trying parts about remodeling, coming up with a game plan to bring ideas and dreams into reality. As projects evolve, any number of things can affect the final outcome. Be it concept, planned use, customer tastes, costs, space optimization, or that danged bearing wall!  We work with you throughout the project from concept to completion!

Functioning, or having the ability to function.

We strive to make your project fit your needs and budget.

Construct: Noun

An idea or theory containing various conceptual elements.

So many things to work out when meshing dreams, needs, budgets and reality! It is fun, stressful, tiring, necessary, tiring, and most importantly, rewarding!

Working: Noun

The action of doing work.

Remodeling is quite the process.  It takes a lot of people! Through my career, I have built relationships with some great people that are ready to help bring your project to completion, be it electricians, plumbers, tile setters, sheet-rockers, etc.

The way in which an organization or system operates.

The process typically starts with a meeting to discuss the general concept of your project. With that information, a ballpark price can be determined. If this is in line with your budget, the next step is to bring in the great people mentioned above to view the project, discuss ideas, expectations, benefits, and issues with the plans and products to get a detailed written contract. Upon signing of contract, and receipt of down payment, plans can be drawn, permits can be pulled, further conversations on specifics will be had, timelines developed, and the project can begin!

Working: Verb

Be engaged in physical or mental activity in order to achieve results.

Let’s be real, it’s going to take a lot of mental activity on your end! There are many decisions and selections you will have to make in this process. Some obvious, others tedious. We’ll help you through the whole process. And on our end, there will be significant physical labor to transforming your home.

Construct: Verb

To build or erect.

Finally! Lets get this project built! After sharing ideas, discussions, and plans, the goal is to leave you with a project you can enjoy with your family for years.
